US magazine the Wine Spectator has awarded 90 points to 'Les Coteaux Schisteux' Séguret Côtes du Rhône Villages 2013 from Boutinot Rhône. Published in the latest issue (15th October 2016) this follows previous positive reviews from the Wine Spectator for the 2010 and 2009 vintage.

James Molesworth, the Wine Spectator's Senior Editor and Rhône specialist described 2013 'Les Coteaux Schisteux' as showing:-

"[ ] a hint of maturity already, with smoldering tobacco and singed mesquite notes leading the way for a core of lightly steeped plum and red currant fruit. Picks up tension through the finish, showing a good chalky underpinning. Finishes with an echo of dried bay. 90 points".

Part of the Boutinot Rhône Fide et Arte range 'Les Coteaux Schisteux', Séguret, Côtes du Rhône Villages 2013 is sourced from a single 50 year vineyard planted with Grenache Noir intermingled, as was the tradition, with Syrah. The result is a Séguret which is one of the  purest expressions of Granche Noir in the Southern Rhône valley.

This US recognition of Les Coteaux Schistuex follows the 2013's inclusion in the UK's Top 100 Wine Merchant list.

'Les Coteaux Schisteux', Séguret, Côtes du Rhône Villages 2013 is available in 75cl, Magnum and limited edition Jeroboam.

The Wine Spectator also awarded 89 points to Boutinot Rhône La Fleur Solitaire Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2015. Also reviewed by James Molesworth on who commented that "This has a plump edge, with green plum and melon flavors forming the core, but there's also verbena, bitter almond and salted butter notes lending zip and cut."

A blend of Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Roussanne / Marsanne and Clairette /Bourboulenc La Fleur Solitaire is the only white wine in the Boutinot Rhône Fide et Arte range, currently in its 7th vintage.

Top 100 Wine Merchant 'Winner' for Les Coteaux Schisteux, Séguret

Screen Shot 2016 07 19 at 10.42.15'Les Coteaux' Schisteux, Côtes du Rhône Villages, Séguret 2013 from Boutinot Rhône's Fide et Arte range has once again been included in The Wine Merchant "Top 100" list for 2016.

Judged by a panel of experts selected from top merchants in the UK's independent wine trade, 650 wines  were entered into the tasting, with just 100 making the Winners list.

Commenting on  'Les Coteaux Schisteux' 2013 judges said “Boutinot has a long-standing relationship with the Rhône, with an intimate knowledge of where to source the best fruit from partner growers....That local knowledge is evident in this classic Grenache and Syrah blend from the high performing village of Séguret in the Southern Rhône.  "Deep, dark and dense in colour, with a sumptuous, rich palate" the judges said. "It's a big wine, but the power is balanced with elegance, freshness, spice and chocolate. At the price you're getting an awful lot of wine for your money.”

This is 2nd appearance of 'Les Coteaux Schisteux' in the Top 100 list. In 2015 the 2012 vintage was included in the Top 100 list.

Les Coteaux Schisteux, Séguret  is part of the Boutinot Rhône Fide et Arte range, whose home is Domaine Boutinot, Cairanne. Sourced from a single, east-facing schiste slope high in the rugged mountainous terroir of Séguret in the southern Rhône valley. So predominantly planted with 50 year old Grenache Noir, intermingled with some Syrah, means Les Coteaux Schisteux comes close to one of the purest expressions of Grenache Noir in the Rhône valley.

'Les Coteaux', Côtes du Rhône Villages 2013 and 'Les Cerisiers' Côtes du Rhône Rosé 2015 were Highly Commended by the judging panel.

Travelling between St Petersburgh and Moscow for a range of tasting and training events hosted by Marine Express and their custmomers, Eric presented wines from Domaine Boutinot's Fide et Arte range. As founding winemaker of Domaine Boutinot Eric talked about his passion for the Southern Rhône and particularly the village of Cairanne, where Domaine Boutinot are based, which was recently elevated to Cru status.

Sommeliers from Leboat and the Safe restauarnt, together with staff and private customers of Vinissimo were enthralled by Eric's intricate knowledge of each component of the blends, which are meticulously put together after rigorous barrel tastings to craft wines for the Fide et Arte range.

Wines tasted included La Fleur Solitaire Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2015, Les Cerisiers Côtes du Rhône Rosé 2015 and Les Coteaux Côtes du Rhône Villages 2013. Tasting Les Coteaux Schisteux Côtes du Rhône Village Séguret 2013, a blend with a very high proportion of Grenache Noir, sommelier Egor Aleshkov of Leboat restaurant in St Petersburgh commented  that it was the "best Côtes du Rhône he had ever tasted".

Les Six Côtes du Rhône Villages Cairanne 2013, which recently scored 90 points in a Vinous tasting (June 2016), was also tasted. Les Six  is, exceptionally for a Cairanne, made from six grape varieties;  traditional varieties Carignan Noir, Counoise and Cinsault are co-fermented in pairs with the more popular Southern Rhone varieties Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvedre which are classically associated with the Southern Rhône.
