Boutinot Rhône’s Spanish Tour

To mark 25 years of winemaking in the Rhône magnum’s of Boutinot 'Les Deux Barriques' Cairanne 2005 were presented to four of the world’s most eminent chefs during a recent North x NorthWest culinary tour.

The North x NorthWest tour brought together the world’s leading chefs based in Northern Spain with four distinguished chefs from the North of England. During the tour the English chefs - Paul Askew (The London Carriage Works), Aiden Byrne (The Church Green), Andrew Nutter (Nutters) and Simon Rimmer (Earle) - met the culianry forces behind the world's most eminent restaurants - Daniel Garcia (Zortziko) , Victor Arguinzoniz (Asador Etxebarri), Andoni Luis (Mugariz), Martin Berastegui (Martin Berastegui Restaurante) and Eneko Atxa (Azurmendi). In thanks for the inspirational menu’s and warm Basque welcome shown to the English chef contingent a limited edition magnum of Boutinot 'Les Deux Barriques' Cairanne 2005 was presented to each Spanish chef.

On presenting the magnum the story behind 'Les Deux Barriques' Cairanne 2005 was told. The wine was discovered during the meticulous process of pre-tasting and racking each barrel desitined for Boutinot’s 2005 ‘La Côte Sauvage’ Cairanne release. Two particular barrels stood apart and these were put to one side, assembled and matured together till late spring 2010. Less than 150 bottles and 150 magnums were produced and the wine seemed a fitting way to celebrate 25 years since Boutinot first made wine in the Rhône

'Les Deux Barriques' Cairanne is highly coveted - 2005 is considered an exceptional vintage in the Rhône; reminiscent of the quality of late 1990's vintages and described by Decanter as ‘a vintage of a lifetime’. The limited production is not on general release and each bottle is numbered and sealed with specially commissioned corks bearing the stamp of Boutinot’s 25th anniversary.
