“Made with six different varieties - nothing compared with Châteuneuf-du-Pape's 14, but still quite a large number - this is a superb, modern, Grenache-dominated Cairanne, which carries its comparatlvely high alcohol lightly, thanks to the structure and acidity of the 2015 vintage. Spicy tapenade and wild herb aromas segue into a smooth, deftly oaked palate with very fine tannins and a core of sweet, tarry blackberry and blueberry fruit. Outstanding value.”– Tim Atkin

'Les Six' is a blend of six grape varieties, co-fermented together in pairs to show how the rare and ancient varietiesof Carignan Noir, Cinsault and Counoise can enhance the more popular southern Rhône varieties of Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre.  The wine is vinified (using traditional methods in) and matured in tronconique (6,0000 litre oak vats) for up to twelve months in the Cairanne cellars of Domaine Boutinot Rhône.

Following the recent elevation of Cairanne to Cru appellation status ( from named Cotes du Rhône Villages), Les Six 2015 is classified as Cairanne A.O.C., in the same way as other Southern Rhône Cru such as Châteauneuf-du-Pape or Rasteau. Marking this change is a subtle evolution of the label – the word 'Les Six' is now more pronounced in a red font and the Domaine Boutinot Rhône bee symbol has been printed in gold foil; design cues which indicate the premium quality of this domaine bottled wine from the highly rated 2015 vintage.
