ERIC MONNIN OF DOMAINE BOUTINOT RETURNS FROM RUSSIA after a warm welcome from wine importers Marine Express for a range of tasting and training events.
Travelling between St Petersburgh and Moscow for a range of tasting and training events hosted by Marine Express and their custmomers, Eric presented wines from Domaine Boutinot's Fide et Arte range. As founding winemaker of Domaine Boutinot Eric talked about his passion for the Southern Rhône and particularly the village of Cairanne, where Domaine Boutinot are based, which was recently elevated to Cru status.
Sommeliers from Leboat and the Safe restauarnt, together with staff and private customers of Vinissimo were enthralled by Eric's intricate knowledge of each component of the blends, which are meticulously put together after rigorous barrel tastings to craft wines for the Fide et Arte range.
Wines tasted included La Fleur Solitaire Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2015, Les Cerisiers Côtes du Rhône Rosé 2015 and Les Coteaux Côtes du Rhône Villages 2013. Tasting Les Coteaux Schisteux Côtes du Rhône Village Séguret 2013, a blend with a very high proportion of Grenache Noir, sommelier Egor Aleshkov of Leboat restaurant in St Petersburgh commented that it was the "best Côtes du Rhône he had ever tasted".
Les Six Côtes du Rhône Villages Cairanne 2013, which recently scored 90 points in a Vinous tasting (June 2016), was also tasted. Les Six is, exceptionally for a Cairanne, made from six grape varieties; traditional varieties Carignan Noir, Counoise and Cinsault are co-fermented in pairs with the more popular Southern Rhone varieties Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvedre which are classically associated with the Southern Rhône.
